H i Absorption in Low-power Radio AGNs Detected by FAST

چکیده

We report the discovery of three HI absorbers toward low-power radio active galactic nuclei (AGNs) in a pilot absorption survey with Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST). Compared to past studies, FAST observations have explored lower powers by $\sim$0.4 dex and detected these weakest at given redshifts. By comparing gas properties kinematics sources along powers, we aim explore interplay between AGN surrounding interstellar medium (ISM). brighter similar redshifts, our suggest slightly detection rate lines ($\sim$$11.5\%$) AGNs $\text{log}(P_{\text{1.4 GHz}}/\text{W Hz}^{-1})=21.8-23.7$. The Hz}^{-1})<23$ $\sim$$6.7\%$. Due incompleteness sample, rates may represent limits. selection more extended dilution emission redshifts contribute lines. These present relatively narrow line widths comparable column densities consistent previous observations. One absorber has symmetric profile large velocity offset, while other two show asymmetric profiles that can be decomposed into multiple components, suggesting various possibilities origins kinematics. connections rotating disks, outflows, clouds, fueling AGN, jet-ISM interactions, which will further investigated upcoming systematic spatially resolved

X-ray observations of low-power FR I radio galaxies

According to unified schemes for Active Galactic Nuclei, low-power, Fanaroff-Riley type I (FR I), radio galaxies are thought to be BL Lacs with their jets pointing at relatively large angles with respect to the line of sight. X-ray observations of FR I sources can test this scenario and constrain the presence of obscuring material around the nucleus. In this paper we discuss the X-ray propertie...

Weighing black holes in radio-loud AGNs

Because of the contamination of jets, using the size – continuum luminosity relation can overestimate the broad line region (BLR) size and black hole mass for radio-loud AGNs. We propose a new relation between the BLR size and Hβ emission line luminosity and present evidences for using it to get more accurate black hole masses of radio-loud AGNs. For extreme radio-loud AGNs such as blazars with...

H I absorption in radio galaxies : effect of orientation or interstellar medium ? ?

A search for H I absorption has been made in 23 radio galaxies selected from a complete sample. The observations were made with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA), with the Very Large Array (VLA) and for one galaxy with the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT). In five galaxies H I absorption was detected. We investigate how the detection rate is distributed among galaxies with...

Pair-Matching of Radio-Loud and Radio-Quiet AGNs

Active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are known to cover an extremely broad range of radio luminosities and the spread of their radio-loudness is very large at any value of the Eddington ratio. This implies very diverse jet production efficiencies which can result from the spread of the black hole spins and magnetic fluxes. Magnetic fluxes can be developed stochastically in the innermost zones of accre...

UHECRs from the Radio Lobes of AGNs

We report a stochastic mechanism of particle acceleration from first principles in an environment having properties like those of Radio Lobes in AGNs. We show that energies ∼ 10 eV are reached in ∼ 10 years for protons. Our results reopen the question regarding the nature of the high-energy cutoff in the observed spectrum: whether it is due solely to propagation effects, or whether it is also a...
